ENGLISH COURSES

ENG 101* Bridgeway English I – Focus on Grammar: This course is a strong review of grammar concepts and all necessary English skills. It teaches parts of speech, sentence analysis, correct grammar, and basic writing skills.

ENG 102 Grammar : This course teaches the tools needed to improve grammar skills in a business setting. It examines sentence structure in detail as well as punctuation.

ENG 103* Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension: This course strengthens reading comprehension skills. It explores the structure and meaning of words by identifying the roots, prefixes, suffices synonyms, and antonyms.

ENG 103-B* Everyday English Language Arts: This course involves the basics of speaking, reading, and writing. It helps increase proficiency in English skills related to everyday life.  It helps develop independent living skills by presenting different real-life forms and situations.

ENG 104* Bridgeway English II: This course is a continuation of Focus on Grammar. Where Focus on Grammar provided the basics of parts of speech and grammar, Focus on Writing begins with using those parts of speech to build clauses, sentences, and phrases, and to write interesting and effective sentences and paragraphs.

ENG 105* Introduction to Composition: This course focuses on writing proficiency. It teaches several types of writing styles that provide the organizational strategies needed to develop solid and coherent essays

ENG 108* Composition II: This course is designed to provide the student with learning experiences that can result in constantly good performance in composition.  Students will have the opportunity to revise for clarity, precision, meaningfulness, and powerful expression. The general purpose of this course is to teach how to write more effectively. Persistent study and practice will be required.

ENG 109* Literature and Philosophy: This course is designed to give students an approach to literature by studying some of the great writers throughout history and by enabling students to become literary critics and writers themselves.  Students will walk in the steps of craftsmen and statesmen as they learn the skills of polishing, drafting, and shaping sentences, paragraphs, articles, stories, speeches, and essays into effective literacy pieces.

MATH COURSES

MA 101* Bridgeway Math I: This course is a strong review of the basics of math through pre-algebra. It teaches all basic math concepts closing all gaps and allowing students to move quickly forward in math. When this course is completed students will be ready to complete Algebra I.

MA 102* Consumer Math: This course prepares students with math skills important for daily math needs. It teaches managing finances, business, and services occupations.

MA 103* Bridgeway Math II: This course is a strong review of the basics of math through pre-algebra. It teaches all basic math concepts closing all gaps and allowing students to move quickly forward in math. When this course is completed students will be ready to complete Algebra I.

MA 104 Business Math: This is an online math course that helps develop and explores basic business math skills. It teaches basic mathematical calculations commonly used in business settings including computing fractions and decimals, the order of operation, solving equation, and word problems. This course also instructs on the use of a calculator for business application.

MA 105* Algebra I: This course teaches essential algebraic concepts, equations, expressions, formulas, inequalities, and problem solving to prepare students for geometry and other advanced math courses needed in college and beyond.

MA 106* Geometry: This course presents easy-to-follow procedures for solving problems with lines, angles, circles, and polygons. This course will prepare students for college and beyond.

SCIENCE COURSES

SCI 101* Physical Science: This course introduces students to the people, places and principles of physics and chemistry. It focuses on the people who contributed to development of these sciences. Students will learn major concepts of physics and chemistry such as matter and changes in matter, energy, sound, light, magnetism, electricity, motion, forces, machines, and technology.

SCI 103* Earth and Space Science: This course teaches about the origins of the universe, stars, galaxies, planets, and Earth’s solar system. This course also teaches about Earth’s structure, minerals, rocks, and fossil fuels found within its outer layer as well as all Earth’s systems, including the lithosphere, the atmosphere, and the hydrosphere.

SCI 104* Biology I: This course is a self-study course. It encourages students to challenge theories, discuss precepts, question principles and engage in open dialog about the Principles, Theories and Precepts of Biology.

SCI 105* Chemistry: This course studies the basic concepts and ideas of chemistry. This course studies: matter, the differences between special kinds of substances and mixtures, the periodic table of the elements and its organization by chemical information.

SCI 106* Physics: This course teaches force, motion, electricity, energy, and heat. It explores particle physics, relativity and physics concepts. This course will prepare students for college and beyond.

SOCIAL STUDIES COURSES

SOC 101* World Geography: This course analyses locations, places, climates, population human cultural, political, and economic characteristics, countries, and regions of the world.

SOC 102* U.S. History: This course teaches and analyses the founding and development of our nation from the first colonies to the first part of the twenty-first century. Students will study the causes of our nation’s westward expansion, causes of and results of the Civil War and Reconstruction era, the nation’s industrialization and urbanization in the 1800s, and issues on immigration and development during the 1900s and early 2000s.

SOC 103* World History I: Through this course students will gain a comprehensive overview of essential people, places and events that shaped the world from prehistoric civilization to middle ages.

SOC 104* World History II: This course continues the study of essential people, places and events in the world from the Renaissance to the 1800s.

SOC 105* World History III: This course comprehensively overviews world history from 1900 to the present day. It introduces profiles of international historical figures and important events.

SOC 106* American Government and Economics: This course explores the events that shaped the development of democracy as well landmark court decisions that shaped the modern structure of our government. This course explains the organization of the U.S. Government from the local to the national level.

ELE 102 Computer ICDL: This is for students who have never used a computer or who have some computer experience, but not a formal qualification proving their knowledge or skills. This course provides an overview of computer hardware, software, networking, and the use of computers in a number of everyday applications.

ELE 103* Nutrition and Health: This course examines basic information about malnutrition, nutrition and the well-balanced diet, exercise and physical fitness, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), first aid and safety, health hazards, cancer, heart disease, and AIDS

ELE 104* Study Skills Strategies: This course teaches students the importance of outlining skills as an effective reading strategy. Students will learn techniques for outlining paragraphs and longer selections. This is an excellent course for college preparation.

ELE 105* Successful Living: This course teaches practical life skills that will prepare students for success in all aspects of life from a study of authority to setting short-term goals that will lead them to success. This is a humanities course designed around the first nine chapters of the book of Proverbs found in the Bible.

ELE 107 Building Relationships and Ethics: This is an online course for students who are interested in networking and want to build professional relationships with a variety of people. This course introduces methods for identifying behavioral intents and troublesome behaviors. This course also teaches simple and complex ethical decisions that can confront one in the workplace. It examines common workplace abuses of power, knowledge, access, and relationships. Students will learn how to develop and maintain ethics at work. To receive credit, students must score 75% or better in each lesson of the course.

ELE 108 (ENG 106) Business Communications: This is an online course that teaches writing skills needed to effectively communicate in a business setting. This course reviews some of the most common forms of written communication and best styles of composition for each.

ELE 109 Interview Skills: This course examines the job interview process from obtaining an invitation to a job interview to follow-up after the interview. This course teaches proper interview preparation, proper interview demeanor, including listening, answering and asking questions, and negotiating.

ELE 110* School to Career: This course teaches students skills that will help them in the transition from school to career.
